The World Senior Citizen’s Day is celebrated on 21 August each year. The celebration took place for the first time in 1991. The day is intended to increase awareness of the factors and issues that affect older adults, such as health deterioration and elder abuse.
The theme for 2024 is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being.
Who is called a Senior citizen?
According to the law, a “senior citizen” means any person being a citizen of India, who has attained the age of sixty years or above. They are usually called as Vridha, Bujurg, Budda. Tau, BadePapa, etc in local dialects.
How Do You Help Old People?
- Even if it’s unstructured, volunteer in your community. Join some social cause, social initiative for seniors. Get involved. Be Kind to them. Respect them.
- Visit an old age home with your kids, celebrate your special days with them. You can also Serve and Supporting senior people simply by listening to them.
